Less is More - week 72 - Something Shiny

Hello everyone

I wanted to enter one more challenge before taking a break - so I have made a very clean & simple card for this weeks challenge over at Less is More challenge blog where the theme is something shiny.

The shiny part is the ribbon buckle which I have cut with a spellbinders die from red holographic card, & the little red pearls in the corner. I wanted a small sentiment - so I used a red fine liner pen & hand wrote the "best wishes". Mind you the buckle doesn't look shiny in the photo - but it is - really!!

Thank you for stopping by - please leave a comment as it is always nice to know that there is someone out there & I am not talking to myself.

cd sunday challenge - delicious damask

Happy sunny Sunday everyone

It is so nice to see a little bit of sun today - so I hope all the Dad's are having a good time on this Father's day.

The challenge over at CD Sunday today is "Delicious Damask", so here is my card ..........

The background paper is from MCS Paper Flower Expert & the image is from MCS Deco Follies.

I printed 2 of the image & cut the face away from the second image leaving just the front part of the hat & her shoulder, in order to produce a 3-d effect.  I then  punched the scalloped oval & placed the lady on it slightly overlapping the oval.  Some pale blue organza ribbon was run down the side & 2 of those delicate flowers added towards the base.  A few pearls added around the oval & to the corners completes the card.

You can just see a group of pearls between the flowers.  I had to put those there as I caught a double-sided pad with my scissors & it flicked over onto the card.  I gently tried to lift it but it would have torn the background paper.  I didn't have another flower to put there - so I covered it with pearls.

If you haven't found CD Sunday challenge yet - pop over & take a look.  Thank you for popping - plee leave a comment to say you have visited.  Thank you.,

One card - two challenges

Well, that is what it was meant to be - but I dragged my heels a bit & missed out on the challenge over at CRAFT - which was for a card with a male theme.

So, that leaves me to enter in the challenge over at Crafts4Eternity where the theme is Travel.

In the photograph it looks rather grey - but is in fact Kraft card & paper, with the images layered onto black card.  The little round black objects are not brads - they are some round plastic bead-like items that can be bought at florist supplies.  They usually are used in a clear vase to help hold the flowers in place. They give the same look as brads & you don't have to pierce the card.

Stupidly I have lost the packaging for the stamps - but I am fairly sure they were by Papermania & there are other cars - Mini Cooper, Citroen 2CV, Volkswagen Beetle & a couple of others - including stamps for their names.

Now - what other challenges for this week do I still have time to enter.

Allsorts challenge 158 - Ice cream colours

Good afternoon everyone.

I do hope you are having better weather than we are today - it is absolutely pouring with rain.  It is so miserable for those people whose homes are being flooded.  Our hearts go out to them.

So! ice-cream colours.  That is the theme over at the Allsorts Challenge Blog this week. I made a couple of cards today, & when they were finished I thought they might suit this challenge.  This is my favourite colour way

I am very much into the clean & simple style so there is more white ice-cream on these than the other flavours.  I stamped the butterfly, which is from CaroLines, onto white card which I then cut out with a scalloped oval Nestabilities.  I then stamped the butterfly again, colouring it with soft blending pencils.  (Their name begins with K & I can't think of it right now & of course the pencils are on my desk upstairs). This was then cut out & mounted over the one on the oval.

Here is the other one - the card layouts are identical -

It was no good I just had to go upstairs & check the name of those pencils & what happened?  Just as I got to the door of the craft room I remembered - but had to look at the box to make sure I was right.

They are beautiful pencils & I have had them a long time but they just go on & on.

Thank you for popping by - please leave a little message to say you have visited.

Goodness 10 days without blogging!

My oh my doesn't time fly.

I can't believe it has been 10 days since I last popped in & wrote a word or two.  It is mainly because I haven't been doing much crafting I have been trying to get on top of cupboards.

No - I don't mean climbing on them - I mean getting to grips with tidying them.  These particular cupboards & their contents have not seen light of day for quite some long time.  My biggest amount of time spent sorting them was this weekend - the things I found !!!!

For example - when did I make these?  What or who did I make them for?

and this one ........... how was I going to finish it?  Do I still have the bits & pieces?

These go back quite a way, when I used to dabble in lots of crafts before I decided to concentrate on stamping as the main craft.  I used to buy all the different shapes & cover them with material, sequins (as can be seen).  I made Christmas decorations with them - some still come out each Christmas even now.

Now that I have popped in for a few minutes & had a little chat, I am off to look inside another box that is in one of the cupboards.  I wonder what surprises lie in store for me.  Then I also have some birthday cards to make - I am also determined to get back into joining in with some of the weekly challenges again.  I even missed WOYWW last Wednesday.

Thank for popping in - I hope you found it interesting & will pop back again.  Who knows what goodies I will have found by then.

Today I finally got around to having a play with zentangles.

Let's get the explanation - or definition - sorted first.  Simply & basically it's doodling - but with some artistic bent added.

Have you sat talking to a friend on the phone, picked up a pencil & doodled on the piece of paper in front of you?  Did you go on to make patterns inside some of the shapes you drew?  Yes! Then in it's most simple form - you were zentangling.

It is now an art form in which a shape is filled with patterns & there are lots of sites on the Internet that show you how to do this & have libraries of patterns for you to learn & use.

I have wanted to try it for some time - but didn't want to step outside my stamping.  Then I spotted a good stamp to start trying it with.  It is an outline flower stamp which I bought from Dimension Stamps (actually whilst they were still Dimension Fourth).  I bought it to make layered paper flowers with.  But because of its open design it is ideal for zentangle.  After stamping it I drew a circle in the middle making it look more flower like - then I went to town on the patterns.

I stamped the image onto a piece of A4 card twice - one to be left as is & one to pattern.  I then practised 6 patterns which I thought I might use.  After that it was decorate the flower with those patterns & any other little swirls etc that I wanted to use.  Here is the work sheet.

I should explain for those who might not know - that the work is done with a very fine black pen - about a 0.1 nib.  The one I used is a 0.4 - so reasonably thick by comparison.

I still have lots of practising to do but I was rather pleased with the outcome for the first attempt.  I will definitely do some more & I can already think of stamps I have that will lend themselves to this treatment.  I now need to practise some more overall patterns, & learn how to make what are apparently straight patterns go around curves.

Why not google "zentangles" & see what it is all about - then have a go.  Go on!  It's is fun. It is therapeutic. No apologies - but it's obsessive too.

Have a really lovely Jubilee weekend.  If you are having outdoor parties I hope the weather stays fine for you.

Thankyou for stopping by
